Kingdom of Italy was a state in Italy that existed from 1861 to 1946. Throughout its history, the Kingdom of Italy had undergone different name changes and restructuring. In the years before its unification, it was known as the Italian Peninsula and was divided into different regions, each with its own rulers. After its unification, it was called the Kingdom of Sardinia, with Victor Emmanuel II as its king. Later on, the name was changed to the Kingdom of Italy. Other names for the Kingdom of Italy that were used during this period were Italian Empire, Italic Peninsula, and Italian Republic. The Kingdom of Italy was dissolved after World War II, and a Republic was proclaimed.
